Surrey supports the richest beetle fauna for any land-locked county in Britain, and with over 3000 species recorded; the Checklist is the longest ever published for a single Order! This is the first summary of the Surrey Beetle fauna since the Victorian County History of 1902, and it provides a long overdue record of the changing fortunes of these fascinating insects.

Compiled by Dr Jonty Denton, a freelance ecologist based in north-east Hampshire. Dr Denton is one of the County’s most active field naturalists, studying and recording a very wide range of plants and animals, but with "an inordinate fondness for beetles".
